The magic of the oktoberfest: beyond beer and laughter

by David Martín Rius

A show that transcends Munich borders

Every year, between the end of summer and the start of autumn, the city of Munich becomes a scenario of joy and tradition that attracts millions of travelers around the world. The oktoberfest is not only a beer celebration, but a cultural experience where history, gastronomy and music merge into a color and movement deployment. More than six million visitors congregate to absorb the Bavarian essence in just fifteen days, consuming an amount of beer that, on average, exceeds six million liters.

The legacy of beer monks: a story that is worth liquid gold

The history of the brewery produced by the emblematic Paulaner begins in the seventeenth century, in the quiet scenario of Munich, where monks of the minimum order decided to create their own drink to resist the rigors of the fasting. Those monks, influenced by the Italian traditions of San Francisco de Paula, devised a recipe with high nutritional content, which soon became a pillar for the local community. Beer, initially aimed at holding its fasts and offering alms, quickly became a life of its own and became a symbol of the region. By then, I already enjoyed the nickname of ‘liquid bread’, for its dense texture and sweet taste.

From monastery to beer icon: evolution and modernity

Paulaner’s long monastic tradition was consolidated in later centuries, when the brewery changed hands and expanded its reach. The transformation of a place of prayer to a modern factory was marked by milestones such as the acquisition by Franz Xaver Zacherl in 1799 and the incorporation of new techniques that raised the quality of their products. The brand was gaining recognition and, over time, in 1994, it adopted its current denomination, reflecting the wealth of its legacy and constant innovation.

The exclusive nectar of the oktoberfest: the Paulaner beer

Since 1818, Paulaner Oktoberfest Bier beer has reserved only for the great Muniquesa party, becoming one of the favorites throughout the country. With a balanced aromatic profile and a soft texture, this beer combines the sweetness of the malt with a delicate hops touch, achieving a drink that is both easy to drink and full of character. The double boiling technique of the must, a distinctive mark of its manufacturing process, confers that roasted brightness and that robust flavor that distinguishes it among the other beers of the event.

What does the Paulaner Oktoberfest Bier unique?

Its elaboration strictly follows the well -known Bavarian purity law of 1516, a standard that still regulates the allowed ingredients: malt, water, hops and yeast. In addition, the brewery uses barley of the best quality, from the Hallertau Valley, and water extracted 240 meters deep, which ensures a clean and aromatic product.

Selection of beers: variety for all tastes

Paulaner’s product range reflects its tradition and versatility. The classic Paulaner Münchner Hell, with its bright golden color and soft flavor, is a reference in the region. The Dunkel, with its dark and toasted notes, captivates those who look for something with character. For its part, the Naturtrüb, with its fruity touch and its murky appearance, offers a refreshing and different experience. Each of these varieties reveals the passion of a brewery that combines ancestral methods with modern innovation, guaranteeing quality and authenticity in each sip.

More than beer: cultural and social experience

The Oktoberfest transcends the simple beer tasting. It is a meeting of cultures, where the Bavarian traditions are held with live music, typical dances and folk costumes that adorn premises and visitors equally. The famous Paulaner tent, with its emblematic bright yellow tower decorated with a gigantic jug, represents one of the most emblematic spaces of the party. There, the spirit of camaraderie and joy is fully lived while enjoying one of the most famous drinks in the world.

Looking towards the future: a tradition that continues to grow

What began as a monastic initiative has become a global symbol of celebration and union. Paulaner distillery continues to improve its methods and expand its presence, without losing the essence of its history. The Oktoberfest, on the other hand, evolves every year, incorporating new traditions and surprises, while maintaining its original spirit. The expectation is that this holiday remains that meeting point for millions, where history, culture and, of course, good beer, remain intact.
