Health! Beer gets sustainable and detects change

Beer: Favorite drink to Sustainable Development Star

The beer, that drink that has been a companion of so many celebrations, now also adds to the list of activities that celebrate its impact on the world. Every first Friday of August is dedicated to paying tribute to this elixir that has traveled the story. In Chile, the Association of Beer Producers reports a significant increase in its consumption between 2005 and 2023, reaching 30 to 57 liters per person, with an amazing peak of almost 65 liters in the pandemic year 2021. That is a bubble party!

Water: The real hero behind beer

Behind each sip of beer there are, surprisingly, between 4 and 6 liters of water in its production. This includes both the water used in the elaboration and the one required to cultivate the basic ingredients, such as barley. That’s right, every time you lift your glass, think about it: You’re drinking valuable water! And no, it is not a puddle, it is treated water that has gone through rigorous purification processes before becoming the golden liquid that we appreciate so much.

A willow at every step

Cervecer production is an aqua -lopening trip. From maltation to fermentation, water is the protagonist. Innovations in purification, such as reverse osmosis, have transformed water into the hidden heroin of the beer industry. And not only that: the most modern breweries have managed to significantly reduce their consumption, using only 2.5 water hectoliters for each beer hectoliter.

The new era of sustainability in breweries

In today’s world, where sustainability is the word of fashion, breweries have found new ways to save water. It is not just about economics; This is responsibility. A few innovations in the plant can result in saving up to 11 million liters of water per year. And, at the same time, work hours can be reduced and increase productive efficiency.

Effective cleaning: the sustainable menu

Site cleaning techniques (CIP) are the new ally of producing plants, optimizing processes to the point of eliminating the use of harmful chemical compounds. Imagine minimizing three cleaning steps to one, and all while you take care of the environment! That is a modern brewery!

Digitization: the other secret ingredient

The figures are promising, but it is the technology that is revolutionizing this industry. Through digitalization, factories can now monitor each production stage with hot precision, from temperature to fermentation times. This not only improves product quality, but also ensures that each drink can be enjoyed with the peace of mind that it meets the desired safety standards.

The exemplary cases of the local brewery corner

When we talk about responsibility, many local breweries are already giving the example. With the adoption of technologies for the recycling of water and more efficient culture methods, these companies are taking a step forward to a greener future. Without a doubt, to provide with a local beer should be a reason for celebration for all environmental lovers.

So the next time you collide your glass in a bar or at a family reunion, remember that, behind each bubble, there is a history of commitment to the planet. Health for that!
