A toast by the seas: how Corona and Parley are putting the rattles for the plastic cat in the oceans

by David Martín Rius

The great fight against plastic tide: when the collaboration makes waves

Every year, millions of tons of plastic waste arrive unpunished to our oceans, transforming these vast ecosystems into floating garbage traps. But in the midst of so much storm, an initiative arises that seeks to change the course and paint a cleaner and blue.

Why so much plastic in the water? The story behind a silent crisis

It is estimated that every 12 months, more than 8 million tons of plastic end at sea, affecting from the smallest food chain to the largest reefs. The alarming thing is that, if the trends persist, in just a few years the ocean could be trapped in a plastic belt that exceeds, in volume, to the amount of fish that inhabit it.

Strategies that break the mold: reinvent the plastic to save the seas

The response to this crisis is not only in eliminating bottles and bags, but also in redefining the entire production and consumption chain. The Air strategy, designed by Parley for the Oceans, proposes: avoid plastic where possible, intercept waste before they reach the sea, and redesign products and materials with a sustainability approach.

A local impulse with global reach: actions that leave their mark

Among the many measures, he highlighted Corona’s commitment, an emblematic brand in Mexico, which has mobilized thousands of volunteers in different parts of the country. Only in the last two years, 11,500 people cleaned almost 90 beaches, stirring more than 130 tons of garbage and marking the way to a more conscious culture.

Action leaders: celebrities and experts who make waves with their example

Recognized figures such as actor Diego Luna and other ambassadors have participated in immersion programs in remote islands, in an attempt to understand and show the real impact of plastic on the seas. Luna, for example, expresses her pride in joining a cause that seeks to protect beaches that are also your home, encouraging simple but effective actions.

Keys to change the narrative: towards a more responsible culture

Beyond visible gestures and alliances, the transformation of the mentality becomes essential. The adoption of alternative materials, corporate education and reduction in mass events are steps that Corona is already taking to reduce its ecological footprint. The idea is that, with each step, a domino effect is generated that inspires others to follow the example.

The road to an ocean without plastic: a blank canvas for innovation

The trip is still long, but the collaboration between brands, artists and scientists raises a promising horizon. The reimagination of plastic and its use, together with educational campaigns, seek to create a new narrative where the oceans are main characters in the history of a healthier and more conscious planet. With each action, we make this story a different end.
