Celebrate the IPA! A toast to hops and creativity

by David Martín Rius

Where did the IPA come from? A hops and seas trip

The story of India Pale Ale, or IPA for friends, is not only a story about a beer, but a liquid odyssey that begins in the 18th century. Imagine an English ship crossing oceans, carrying beers capable of supporting warm climates and the most difficult crossings. The secret? More alcohol and more hops, because of course, British troops needed more than tea to stay cheerful.

The birth of IPA Day: A very lupulate holiday!

In 2011, two beer enthusiasts, Ashley Routson and Ryan Ross, decided that the world needed a day to celebrate this wonder of hops. Thus, the IPA Day was quickly arriving at corners of the entire planet, capturing hearts and palates, becoming the perfect excuse to provide with friends.

The arrival in Latin America

The echo of this celebration resonated in Spanish -speaking countries thanks to the Chilean portal Beer Geeks, which in 2013 was responsible for spreading the voice. And since then, every year, beer lovers come together to share their passion.

The reason behind the celebration

The IPA Day is not an invention of a gigantic beer looking for its next advertising campaign. Here everyone plays in the same team: artisanal brewers, fans and disseminators. It is a call to join voices and educate about the responsible consumption of craft beers, making each sip an act of solidarity.

Mark your calendars! IPA Day 2024

Are you ready for the party? On the first Thursday of August it has been established as the official date to raise the glasses. So mark on August 1, 2024 on your calendar, and get ready for a day full of tasting and camaraderie with your favorite beers.

The various IPA styles: a world of flavor

There are as many IPA styles as stars shining in the sky. Let’s look at some of the most prominent protagonists who fill aroma and character breweries:

1. English IPA

The classic British Pale, with its bitter touch and a flavor profile that transports you to the soft hills of England.

2. American IPA

Hops to the load! The American IPA elevates the taste, balancing an intense bitterness with a clean ending.

3. Double IPA

Doublely strong and lupulate, this version is for those who seek an explosion of flavor with all the sophistication of a great beer.

4. Belgian IPA

A fusion of the elegance of Belgian beers and the citrus touch of American hops. A match made in the beer sky!

5. Black IPA

Dark as night, but with the freshness of a classic IPA. Perfect for those who do not want to give up hops despite their color.

Final reflections: Let’s provide for hops!

So, while the IPA Day approaches, do not forget to explore the variations of this style that we love so much. Each sip is a story, and who does not want to be part of this great beer tradition? Health!
